Thousand Islands is Committed to Contribute to Prevent Global Warming

The Thousand Islands Regency administration has prepared several action plans to preventing global warming.

Our concern is needed to protect the environment

Thousand Islands Regent, Junaedi said his party was supporting the National Action Plan for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions (RAN-GRK) in accordance with Presidential Regulation number 61/2011 on the National Action Plan for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions, by 26-29 percent until 2030.

"Thousand Islands has a water area of approximately 6,997.5 square kilometers, which is estimated to absorb up to 55 percent of Jakarta's mainland carbon dioxide," he expressed, when he gave a speech at the national webinar about the 57th anniversary of the State University of Jakarta with the theme Blue Carbon On Climate Change Mitigation, Wednesday (6/30).

According to him, real action to prevent global warming was done by expanding mangrove forests, seagrass beds and brackish areas that function as carbon sinks and pollutants.

"Our concern is needed to protect the environment," he explained.

Environmental Sub-agency Head, Djoko Rianto Budi Hartono added, several efforts had been made, including collecting data on mangrove and seagrass vegetation on Kelapa and Harapan islands, coral reef vegetation and planting mangroves on several residential islands and conservation sites on Tidung Kecil and Karya islands.

"Through several efforts to improve the quality and quantity of the blue carbon ecosystem, hopefully it will be able to absorb and store carbon stocks for adaptation and mitigation solutions to climate change impacts," he hoped.
