1,791 Pregnant Women in Jakarta Have Been Vaccinated Against COVID-19

Total 1,791 pregnant women in Jakarta have been vaccinated against COVID-19 using Sinovac, Moderna, and Pfizer vaccines on August 2-18, 2021. In fact, nine of them have received full vaccination.

First dose injection is given in the second trimester of pregnancy

Jakarta Health Agency's Epidemiology and Immunization Surveillance Section Head, Ngabila Salama said, number of pregnant women who were vaccinated with first dose vaccine only reached 0,02 percent of total pregnant women in Jakarta, which was around 12,930 people as of July 2021.

"First dose injection is given in the second trimester of pregnancy. Vaccination should be postponed if pregnancy is less than 13-33 weeks or clinical indication factors," she mentioned, Thursday (8/19).

She explained that pregnant women are at high risk if exposed to COVID-19. Therefore vaccination is given to pregnant women to reduce severity and death risk. Currently, she continued, sub-district health centers and hospitals have provided vaccination for pregnant women.

"Pregnant women can visit vaccination centers that provide Sinovac, Moderna, and Pfizer vaccines. We urge pregnant women to register for vaccination through Jakarta Kini (JAKI) application thus they don't have to queue. The second dose vaccine is given according to the interval of type of vaccine is used," she conveyed.

For information, Indonesian Ministry of Health has permitted COVID-19 vaccination  to be given to pregnant women starting August 2, 2021 through Circular Letter of Ministry of Health No. HK.02.01/I/2007/2021 on COVID-19 Vaccination for Pregnant Women and Screening Adjustments in COVID-19 Vaccination Implementation. It regulates vaccination requirements for pregnant women in using three types of vaccines, namely Pfizer and Moderna which use mRNA platform and Sinovac that uses inactivated virus platform, with the following conditions:

a. Prioritized in areas with high transmission rates

b. Blood pressure above 140/90 mmHg is not recommended

c. Heart disease, asthma, DM, lung disease, HIV, hyperthyroidism, chronic kidney disease and liver disease must be under control

d. If you have autoimmune, it must be under control and get doctor's approval

e. If you have history of severe allergies, you should get special monitoring
