200 Joint Personnel Work Together to Clean Up KBN River

It is targeted to be completed within two months in order to restore depth and width of the river about seven to eight meters

As many as 200 joint personnel of Satpol PP, Water Resources Sub-agency, Environment Sub-agency, Parks and Urban Forest Sub-agency, and Cilincing Sub-district PPSU assisted by Sukapura residents, worked together on Sunday (9/26) to clear mud in the KBN River, RW 02, Sukapura Urban Village, Cilincing Sub-district, North Jakarta.

North Jakarta Mayor, Ali Maulana Hakim said, the action called Grebek Lumpur (mud cleanup) was held to overcome the flood problem.

"We also send two heavy equipment there. It is targeted to be completed within two months in order to restore depth and width of the river about seven to eight meters," he expressed.

He urged locals to keep the water flow clear of mud, starting from ditches to rivers and reservoirs by not littering.

"It will be carried out in all sub-districts gradually every week, to ensure that the flow from 13 rivers to nine estuaries in North Jakarta is really smooth," he explained.

Sukapura Urban Village Head, Achmad Rosiwan added, the river was last dredged about two years ago and is a river that also accommodates water channels from RW 01, 02, 03 and 05 for three kilometers to the KBN Sluice Gate on Jalan Cakung-Cilincing to Cakung Drain River.

"The river itself has experienced narrowing and siltation. So, it is very prone to triggering puddles and floods," he said.
