Three Retention Ponds Built at Ciracas GOR

The function is the same to maximize water absorption from rainwater that enters Ciracas GOR area

Three large retention ponds are currently under construction in Ciracas Sports Hall (GOR) area, on Jalan Raya Bogor, Ciracas, East Jakarta. All three functioned to accommodate rainwater and as a stock of clean water reserves during the dry season.

Based on the information gathered in the field, these two retention ponds are being built in the garden area and parking at the front. Each has 25x8 square meters and 13x8 square meters. One more pool is built at the back, near the football field measuring 13x7 square meters.

Ciracas Sub-district Head, Mamad said it was realized in cooperation with the Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency. There would also be a number of infiltration wells around the pond with 22 meters depth, which aims to accommodate rainwater.

"This is the first time in Ciracas or even in East Jakarta. The function is the same to maximize water absorption from rainwater that enters Ciracas GOR area," he said.

Samuel, one of project executors explained, it is made by digging a hole with a depth of two meters. The bottom is covered with sand and gravel material. Then above the gravel, there is a layer of a sheet of a kind of cloth that is very easy to absorb water.

Then on top of it, there is a modular measuring 100x50 centimeters arranged in four levels. It has many cavities that make it easy for water to enter. After that, it is covered with sand again; the excavated soil and the top part were filled with concrete blocks.

"Rainwater from the GOR building will enter through the water channel that has been connected to the retention pond," he stated.

According to him, if rainwater filled the pond, it would automatically enter the wells around it. Then it went into the control tank which would later become a clean water reservoir.

"This project has been ongoing since two weeks ago and is targeted for completion on December 10," he concluded.
