Vice Governor Ariza: NCICD Embankment and Mud Dredging in Pluit Reservoir Can Control Floods in Coastal Jakarta

Jakarta Vice Governor, conducted a working visit (kunker) to monitor the construction of a giant sea wall, also called the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) Embankment in Caping Beam Tanggung Muara BKB, North Jakarta, on Sunday (12/26). He also visited the Pluit Reservoir, North Jakarta in order to monitor the ongoing mud dredging work and ensured that everything was going according to plan, which aims to prevent coastal flooding on the coast of Jakarta.

We want to ensure, strive for prevention, handling, flood control, with a dredging program

"This is one of project plans from the Water Resources (SDA) Agency. We want to ensure, strive for prevention, handling, flood control, with a dredging program. Certainly, it is routinely carried out, either during dry or rainy season," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

As for the information, the Jakarta administration continues to anticipate tidal floods (or locally known as rob). That is by developing the giant sea wall along the coast of the capital city. This project had stalled in 2019 due to the pandemic but was resumed this year with a total target of 790 meters.

NCICD Embankment Project Recontinued to Tackle Tidal Floods

It is a national strategic project to build a coastal embankment along the Jakarta coastline, to secure and reorganize the northern coastal area of Jakarta, as well as to improve the environment. Its construction will be continued in collaboration with various parties, especially stakeholders whose activities are in direct contact with the NCICD embankment trace.

"It will be built along 130 kilometers from Kamal Muara to Blencong River. Of all that, we will prioritize 46 kilometers first. Of the 46 kilometers at critical points, we have only completed 12.6 kilometers and the remaining 33 kilometers will be done by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) for approximately 11 kilometers and the administration up to 22 kilometers. This is our cooperation through SDA Agency," he explained.

He gave an appreciation to the central government collaborating in flood prevention efforts in the capital. Hopefully, it would get support from the local. Indeed, it takes a lot of time and money. Please, you (locals) can help in your respective neighborhoods to make temporary embankments with piles of sand/stones with each ability. However, in principle, the government will ensure the existence of an embankment (beach)," he explained.

He also appreciated the agency in carrying out dredging work of reservoirs, rivers, rivers and so on as part of flood prevention efforts. "This is an effort made, hopefully we can improve again next year. By so, later, all reservoirs and rivers must have barges and push boats to speed up the dredging of soil mud. Thus, we can accommodate more water optimally. Right now, we can only accommodate 1 and a half meters, maybe up to 2 meters in water depth, so it will be optimized up to 3 meters, thankfully it can be more," he concluded.
