To realize the giant sea wall project in Jakarta, we offer official assistance to city government

The offer was delivered immediately by Commisioner of Saemangum Korea Development and Investment Agency, Lee Byoung Gook to Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja 'Ahok' Purnama at City Hall, Wednesday (1/21).

"To realize the giant sea wall project in Jakarta, we offer official assistance to city government," said Gook at City Hall.

Giant Sea Wall Project Divided into Three Phases

He explained, South Korea Government will give an official assistance of USD 10 million to run the construction smoothly as the first step.

"In the assistance, we will do research of GSW at the beginning. This research need some time, after that, we will give direction of the project development and give suggestion to attract the investor to put their investment in this giant project," he uttered.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor, Basuki T Purnama revealed, his side cannot be sure to receive the South Korea assistance. Because, the city government decision in receiving the assistance must be known and agreed by some parties.

"Before we decide, they (South Korea) should meet the Economy Coordinator Ministry first, and then meet the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) related to the project," he said.

He added, the Saemangun embankment concept is different with the giant sea wall project in northern Jakarta. The GSW project will be built as water reservoir, while the Saemangum embankment is intended to hold waves. So, the GSW concept is more suitable if the construction apply the Maasvlakete Sea Wall project in Rotterdam, Dutch.
