BPBD Presents Abang Monas Movement

Hopefully, it can be a step that all elements of society can massively follow

Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) made an innovative step through a movement called Abang Monas (Let's Help Collect Toys and Dolls for Survivors).

This movement is in line with the BPBD's function in post-disaster social recovery for survivors, especially for children.

Facing Rainy Season, City Conducts Data Collection on Disaster Management Resources

Jakarta BPBD Head, Isnawa Adji said that the movement was an effort to organize community initiatives to collect toys and dolls that were still fit for use to be given to children who survived the disaster.

The idea of Abang Monas carried the principle of 'reuse' using toys and dolls suitable for reuse and 'reduce' which means it is in line with the government's mission to reduce waste.

"By so, child survivors who receive toys and dolls feel emotionally supported," he expressed, Monday (9/26).

He went on to say that this movement had begun to be disseminated to the public via the Jakarta BPBD social media and also at the Scout Day celebration from September 10 to 11, 2022.

"We also participated in the Jakarta Innovation Days exhibition to invite the public to join the Abang Monas movement at Jakarta City Hall Building from September 27 to 28, 2022," he continued.

Jakarta as a metropolitan city with the threat of various kinds of disasters such as fires and floods has its challenges. Among them are aspects of life as a result of disasters such as physical, social, and psychological aspects.

According to him, disasters have a major psychological impact on vulnerable groups. One of them is at the age of children, as it can cause anxiety and fear after experiencing a disaster.

"Hopefully, it can be a step that all elements of society can massively follow," he hoped.
