75 Houses at Rawa Buaya Burnt

Citizen's settlement at dense population in Bojong Kaveling RT 16/04, Rawa Buaya Urban Village, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, were set on fire on Wednesday (2/25). Although there are no casualties reported, the fire led 350 citizens to evacuate.

The fire location is difficult to reach and most of the building consists of flammable materials

Joko (32), an eyewitness uttered, the fire that expected come out because shot circuit was first seen at 8.30 a.m. from Dulkamit's (65) house then rapidly spread out to dozens of semi-permanent buildings near the house.

"The fire was first seen from Dulkamit's house due to short circuit," Joko said.

After seeing flames, Joko continued, the citizens had tried to put out the blaze using available tools but it did not work because most of the building consists of flammable material as plywood, wood, and bamboo. 

Kamil (43), one of West Jakarta Fire Managing and Rescuing Sub-department officer said, 17 fire trucks were deployed to the location but the officers still difficult to extinguish fire that burned 75 houses.

"The fire location is difficult to reach and most of the building consists of flammable materials," said Kamil.

Rawa Buaya Urban Village Head, Ridwan estimated losses reached hundred millions rupiah. Currently, hundreds citizens were evacuated at Al Hasmi Mosque that located on RT 04/04 Rawa Buaya 

"We have delivered aid to fire victims that accommodated in Al Hasmi Mosque. The aid comes from Social Department, PMI and other donors," said Ridwan.
