Some Tips to Keep Your Home Fire-Safe During Mudik Trips

During the annual mudik, or mass exodus of Muslims returning to their hometowns for Idul Fitri, homes are often left unattended for several days, which may cause concerns over accidents such as fires occurring while homeowners are away.

Our firefighters urge residents who will take mudik trips to always remain alert to the threat of fire hazard

This mid-April, the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulikarmat), shared several tips on what people can do to keep their home safe from fire during the mudik season:

Don't leave your stove on

Make sure that your gas stove is safe by removing the gas regulator and turning off your stove. Always double-check before leaving for your trip.

Unplug your electronic devices

Disconnect all electric devices from the socket. This includes your air conditioner, fridge, rice cooker, water pump, internet, and television.

Inform your neighborhood units and community units

Inform your neighborhood units and community units It is advised to inform RT/RW administrators and security guards of your neighborhood about your trip, particularly how long you will be away and your cell phone number.

Jakarta Gulkarmat Agency Head, Satriadi Gunawan stated his party continues to intensify socialization of fire hazards in residential areas in order to prevent fires during the Idul Fitri holiday.

"Using a loudspeaker, our firefighters urge residents who will take mudik trips to always remain alert to the threat of fire hazard," he expressed, Monday (4/17).

He added the socialization also took advantage of loudspeaker facilities at mosques or musala (prayer rooms) to call on residents to play an active role in preventing fires.

"Firefighters in five city areas have also put up stickers containing messages urging residents to help prevent fires during mudik in some strategic places in the community," he said.
