Jakarta Air Quality on Idul Fitri Improves

Data from the Air Quality Monitoring Station (SPKU) owned by the Jakarta Environment Agency shows that air quality tends to improve during Idul Fitri. The data shows that PM10, PM 2.5, and NO2 throughout the Jakarta area are below the daily quality standard.

The same thing is also shown by the results of measurements using 12 Low Cost Sensors (LCS)

Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto said the PM 2.5 concentration on the first day of Idul Fitri 1444 Hijri (April 22, 2023) ranged from 26.07 - 39.26 ug/m3 and this number decreased compared to the H-2 of Idul Fitri by 26.94 - 49.13 ug/m3.

The improved condition of air quality in Jakarta was influenced by the reduced density of vehicle traffic during Idul Fitri holiday

"The same thing is also shown by the results of measurements using 12 Low Cost Sensors (LCS). People who are on leave and going home outside the area make Jakarta quieter and quieter," he expressed, Friday (4/28).

He admitted the high concentration of Ozone (O3), which is a secondary pollutant resulting from photochemical reactions, is caused by the sun's apparent motion cycle. This resulted in a heat wave phenomenon in Indonesia.

On April 24, the BMKG has also issued a warning about UV rays in several cities in Indonesia showing an index of dangerous.

However, he emphasized that the recent hot weather was not directly correlated and was not caused by the currently good air conditions in Jakarta.

"Even the condition of Jakarta's air quality on Idul Fitri tends to improve, even though the heat wave is happening," he stated.
