BPBD: Be Aware of Extreme Weather this Week

Since the impact of extreme weather may occur in a number of areas in Jakarta this week, The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) urges the public to be aware.

Stay away from shady trees and advertisement boards during rain

Head of BPBD DKI Jakarta, Isnawa Adji, said there will be atmospheric dynamic conditions that triggering the potential for extreme weather in several areas. It is the result of weather monitoring released by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) starting from Wednesday (1/3) to Wednesday (1/10).

Light Rain, Strong Winds Forecasted to Hit Parts of Jakarta

"I appeal the residents to recognize the dangers and reduce the risks. Stay away from shady trees and advertisement boards during rain," he said, Thursday (1/4).

According to the monitoring update released by BMKG, the agency asked residents to be aware of the potential for moderate to heavy rain in parts of East and South Jakarta during mid day to evening.

Also be aware for moderate to heavy rain in parts of Seribu Islands, North and Central Jakarta, as well as northern and West Jakarta from evening to early morning.

"The extreme weather condition is predicted resulting moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds," he added.

Related to the disaster vulnerability, Isnawa admitted has been checking facilities for 25 urban villages which are prone to flood. It is including mitigation readiness as well as equipment such as rubber boat, rope and flashlight.

He ensured that all infrastructure are in good condition and ready to be operated. He also had intensively carried out disaster preparedness education through social media, especially in areas that are prone to flood such as the Ciliwung riverbank area.

"We will keep monitoring the weather every two hours," he closed.
