Joint Personnel Clean 83 Cubic Meter Waste at Marunda Kepu

Jakarta Environment Agency held cleaning waste operation at Marunda Kepu Beach, Cilincing, North Jakarta, Wednesday (5/1) yesterday. There were 83 cubic meter waste collected.

We'll optimize the cleaning

Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto, said the operation was held to make sure Jakarta coast area is clean.

"The operation remains to be continued based on the condition. We'll optimize the cleaning," he said, as quoted from press release, Thursday (5/2).

Asep added that the operation involved 390 joint personnel of Water Body's Waste Handling Unit (UPS BA) and Seribu Island Environment Sub-agency, Babinsa, City Police's Polairud, PPSU, and college students.

"We thank to all side for assisting us cleaning the area," he added.

Meanwhile, UPS BA Head, Dadang Cahya Rusdiana, stated personnel collected 83 cubic meter waste starting from the end of East Flood Canal.

"We also found waste carried away by sea wave from other areas," he stated.

Moreover, Dadang who also serves Acting Seribu Island Environment Sub-agency Head added the main obstacle to handle waste in Marunda Kepu is waste carried by wave from the Bekasi River Estuary which is mixed with mud sediment. Thus, making the cleaning process difficult.

"We deployed one unit of land excavator, one unit of amphibious excavator, 20 units of waste transport trucks, two units of truck type transport trucks, and one unit of compactor truck," he continued.

According to him, this operation is only short-term solution to handle waste at the area.

"It needs mitigation, cooperation and collaboration to handle waste at the area," he added.

Dadang explained the cleaning is continued every day by involving five to six personnel of Seribu Island Environment Sub-agency.
