Seoul Damkar Visits East Jakarta Gulkarmat

The Seoul Fire Agency (Damkar), South Korea, conducted a visit and comparative study to the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-agency office, Friday (5/31).

On that occasion, East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-agency Head, Muchtar Zakaria and his staff, officially received the delegation visit represented by the Emergency Response Division Director, Mr. Hyun Jinsoo, and the Fire Captain, Mr. Kwon Seokyong. They were accompanied by each official from the Ministry of Home, namely Greis Meirandha and Singgih.

He stated they came for a comparative study of incident commanders or event commands on the field. His party introduced the organizational structure of the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-agency, equipment, and infrastructure to support fire prevention, and demonstrated agility training for Gulkarmat personnel.

"We are indeed doing agility training and they witnessed firsthand the fire extinguishing techniques used by our personnel," he explained.

Their visit was an invitation from the Ministry of Home and the City Secretary. After leaving the sub-agency's office, they immediately headed to the Fire and Rescue Training Center in Ciracas.

Emergency Response Division Director, Mr. Hyun Jinsoo admitted that he appreciated the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-agency and assessed that the equipment was quite sophisticated and the personnel were also quite professional.

"The work equipment is adequate and modern," he added.

Prevention Section Head, Edi Parwoko added the highest multi-story building in his area was 40 floors or 130 meters. The existing equipment was sufficient for fighting fires in East Jakarta.

He added outreach to the community is also routinely conducted to prevent fire cases.

"This is very effective in suppressing fire cases. Thus, when a fire occurs, the people respond quickly and immediately respond in initial handling," he concluded.
