Jakarta DLH Provide Sinergy to Handle Air Pollution

As the effort to handle air pollution at Jabodetabek areas, Jakarta Environment Agency (DLH) provide synergy with Environment Agencies at agglomeration area, Cibubur, Bekasi, West Java, Thursday (6/27) yesterday.

This synergy is important related to air pollution in agglomeration areas

This agenda was attended by Environment and Forestry Ministry, West Java DLH, Banten DLH, Bogor DLH, Bogor Regency DLH, Depok DLH, Tangerang DLH, Tangerang Regency DLH, South Tangerang DLH, Bekasi DLH, and Bekasi Regency DLH.

"This synergy is important related to air pollution in agglomeration areas," Asep said as quoted from Jakarta Provincial Government's press release.

Previously on June 5, 2023, city and regency in Jabodetabek signed a memorandum to improve air quality. This agreement was initiated by the Jakarta Provincial Government and includes several important points, such as the formation of the National Air Protection Working Group as a forum for accelerating air quality improvements, as well as the preparation of integrated air pollution control strategies in each administrative region.

Apart from that, accelerating motor vehicle emission testing activities is also one of the discussions. In this case, integrated data management through the SIUMI application belonging to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) is very helpful in monitoring and evaluating air quality. Emission inventories in each region and data exchange are also part of this synergy effort. DLH Jakarta is also ready to carry out mobile emission tests in the Jabodetabek area.

"Forums like this are very important for synergy and strategy implementation, so that each Provincial Government and City/Regency Government can show their contribution. I also hope that the DLH agglomeration can encourage collaborative activities and support better steps for cleaner air quality in the Jabodetabek area," he added.

On this occasion, the importance of education and outreach to the public regarding the importance of maintaining air quality was also discussed. DLH DKI Jakarta Province and other regions have agreed to continue to increase public awareness through various educational programs and environmental campaigns.

Another important point is the commitment to involve the private sector in efforts to control air pollution.

"We invite corporations to actively participate in air pollution control programs, because the private sector plays a very large role in reducing industrial emissions," he continued.

It is hoped that there will also be improvements in data management and air quality monitoring through this cooperation. Accurate and integrated data is very important for making effective policies in controlling air pollution.

West Java DLH's Official, Endang Hidayat, stated obstacles faced in agglomeration areas, such as limited provision of Air Quality Monitoring Stations (SPKU) in buffer areas and limited emission testing equipment, must be immediately overcome through more intensive cooperation between provincial and city/regency DLH.
