The monitoring aimed to make sure canteen condition, food and drinks sold at the school are safe for consumption

Juaini said the monitoring is inline with Jakarta Governor Instruction and North Jakarta Mayor about acceleration of Healthy School Canteen Certification throughout North Jakarta. At the same time, ensuring that the healthy canteen conditions at SDN Pademangan Timur 03 are running effectively and according to standards.

"There have been many cases of dialysis or kidney failure in children recently. For that, we want to make sure that children in schools consume healthy food," he said, Wednesday (8/14).

Based on the monitoring, he added, SDN Pademangan Timur 03 canteen is already fulfilling healthy standard.

"Hopefully this canteen can be role model for other schools," he added.

Healthy canteen in Jakarta has reached 61.9 percent or 276 schools ranging from elementary, junior, and senior high school. It is hoped the number will reach 100 percent this year.

North Jakarta Health Sub-agency Head, Lysbeth Regina Pandjaitan, said education about healthy eating habits for children and other school communities needs to be continuously intensified.

"We need to make sure that food or snack sold is not containing Formalin, Borax, Rhodamine B and Metanil Yellow," she said.

According to her, kidney failure in children can also be caused by hypertension and diabetes. For that, healthy canteens must also implement mitigation of the dangers of excessive GGL (Sugar Salt Fat) in packaged foods and ready-to-eat foods.

"A healthy canteen must also be supported by clean facilities and infrastructure, with no animals so that the food in the canteen is not contaminated," she added.
