Menteng Heritage Society Contributes to Preserving Cultural Heritage

Jakarta Provincial Government together with Menteng Heritage Society conducted a road and cultural heritage exploration visit in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Menteng Heritage Society Chief, Halida Hatta, said this joint activity with Jakarta Provincial Government was run in order to maintain the sustainability and authenticity of Menteng area as a historical area.

"As an association of historical area conservationists in Menteng, we invite the authorities, that is Jakarta Provincial Government, to jointly look at the preservation and arrangement of the Menteng area in accordance with its designation," she said, Sunday (9/8).

Halida added that today's activity was also a form of policy advocacy and approach to stakeholders to generate energy in finding the best approach or decisions.

"We want Jakarta Provincial Government to take the best policies or decisions for the arrangement of public spaces to housing issues such as Building Permits that must be in accordance with the submission," she added.

In heading to Jakarta's 500th anniversary, she continued, the Menteng Heritage Society wants that public space, green open space, water management of the Menteng area to be properly planned.

"Menteng area should be safe and comfortable for all people. It is hoped today's discussion will meet its target so that the characteristics of Menteng as an area with millions of histories will return to its original concept," she continued.

Meanwhile, Acting Jakarta Provincial Government Regional Secretary's Community Welfare, Suharini Eliawati, said today's tour was participated by related Regional Working Units such as Culture Agency, Parekraf Agency, Satpol PP, and other stakeholders.

The tour was also attended by 2007-2012 Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo, Meutia Hatta, Halida Hatta. Menteng Heritage Society provided suggestion, input and attention regarding Menteng area's use to be remain the same as before.

"It's interesting. We conveyed that Jakarta Provincial Government will carry out several stages, from short, medium, and long term, processes regarding today's suggestion, input, and attention," she said.

The authenticity or preservation of the historical environment in Jakarta, especially in Menteng, she hoped, can continue to be carried out and maintained together. It means the characteristics of Menteng area are not easily abandoned or eroded.

"Thanks God they all also appreciated the arrangement in Menteng, such as Lembang Park, which is beneficial for the environment and the community," she stated.
