"The residents are able to use tomato as sauce without preservatives," she said.

Ucu added that the tomatoes were sold to local residents and the remaining was distributed to PKK cadre and local residents.

Ucu hoped other areas in Central Jakarta are also able to provide urban farming by utilizing empty land.

"As for food security, the productive plants will also keep price stability," she added.

Central Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency Head, Penty Yunesi, explained apart from tomatoes, eggplant and basil leaves were also harvested. The 200 square meter land is managed by Tani Taruna Jaya farming group since 2003.

"Today's harvesting is the 10th this year. We're always supporting them starting from seed up to technical coaching," she explained.
