Achieving Better Life as Residents Living Under Jelambar Baru Toll Bridge Moved to Flats

As many as 139 families living under toll road of Jalan Inspeksi Kanal Barat, Jelambar Baru, Grogol Petamburan, Saturday (11/30), were moved to several flats owned by Jakarta Provincial Government.

The resident relocation was marked a handover ceremony for the keys held at Rawa Buaya Flat, Saturday (11/30) afternoon.

Jakarta Provincial Government Moves 1,054 Families from Under Bridge and Toll Road to Flats

The handover was attended by Home Affairs Minister, Tito Karnavian; Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono; Minister of Housing and Residential Areas, Maruarar Sirait; Deputy Minister of Social Affair, Agus Jabo Priyono; Head of Presidential Communication Hasan Nasbi and Jakarta Regional Secretary, Marullah Matali.

Jakarta Provincial Government together with central government is currently intensify implementing a program to relocate residents living under toll road and bridge to several flats as an effort to realize welfare and improve the resident living standard.

Basri (43), one of the residents moved to Rawa Buaya Flat, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, admitted happy with this program.

He said that he is unable to rent or buy house since he has no enough income as an ojek driver.

"Thanks to governments for moving us to a better place," he said.

He is optimistic that his family's life will be comfortable and peaceful, and his children will grow and develop better.

Similar thing was also conveyed by Sule (53) together with his wife Rukmini (50) who occupied under the toll road bridge since 1995.

"I am sure I can adapt with the other residents of the flat to open a new, better chapter in life," he admitted.

This father of three who works odd jobs expressed his gratitude because he received a six-month free rental relief from the government.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Regional Secretary, Marullah Matali, explained Jakarta Provincial Government and central government will relocate residents living under the bridge and toll road for the sake of better life.

Marullah added that the green open space or public facility will be constructed on the area previously occupied by the residents.

"We would like to thank you for the efforts that have been made. Hopefully the relocated residents will get a better life," Marullah said.

PKP Minister, Maruarar Sirait, stated his side appreciates the synergy between ministries and Jakarta Provincial Government for realizing the relocation.

"It is hoped it can bring prosperity for the relocated residents. Similar program will also be implemented in other big cities," he stated.

As for information, those 139 families are relocated to to Rawa Buaya Flat by 44 families, four families to Daan Mogot Flat, 26 families to Tegal Alur Flat and 45 families to PIK Pulogadung Flat.
