SDA Agency Handles Leaking Embankments on Jakarta Coast

The Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency conducts temporary handling of several leaking embankments in the coastal areas of Jakarta. This leak caused seawater to overflow onto land, affecting the tidal flood conditions triggered by the full moon phenomenon.

Later, the holes in the embankment will be closed using cast concrete

Jakarta SDA Agency Acting Head, Ika Agustin Ningrum said permanent treatment would be implemented in the first quarter of 2025.

"Later, the holes in the embankment will be closed using cast concrete. We're also already on standby with sandbags to temporarily cover the leaks," she expressed, Wednesday (12/18).

Jakarta Braces for Tidal Floods in Coastal Area

She explained several points that experienced significant leaks including Muara Baru, Jalan RE Martadinata, and Sunda Kelapa Port. They are a regular area for tidal flooding due to the vulnerability of the embankment infrastructure.

Thereby, the SDA Agency deployed a standby team with sandbags at leak locations to dampen the overflow in short-term response efforts. This step was taken so that tidal flooding would not spread to residential areas.

"With temporary measures and plans for permanent closure next year, we're optimistic that the leaking embankment problem can be minimized," she stated.
