Jakarta Provincial Provides Third Weather Modification Operation

Jakarta Provincial Government runs another weather modification operation. This third operation is held from Wednesday (12/25) to Tuesday (12/31).

Jakarta BPBD's Handling and Operation Sub-group Head, Muhamad Thoufiq Hidayatuloh said this third operation is responding BMKG's prediction about high rainfall potential on December 25-31.

"We try to anticipate hydrometeorology disaster as the heavy rain impact," he said, Thursday (12/26).

Second OMC Reduces Rain Intensity by 69 Percent

Thoufiq explained this third operation still uses seeding salt into the clouds method. Seeding is carried out at an altitude of eight to 11 thousand feet using an airplane.

His side together with BMKG and Basarnas have provided OMC post to ease the operation at Budiarto Airport, Curug, Tangerang, Banten.

"We conducted two flight sorties on the first day, while today could be 3 to 4 flights," he added.

Jakarta BPBD Implementation Secretary, Marulitua Sijabat explained the first stage of operation on Saturday (12/7) up to Monday (12/9) successfully reduced rainfall intensity up to 67 percent.

Then the second stage run on Friday (12/13) up to Monday (12/16) also effectively reduced rainfall intensity up to 69 percent.

"Hopefully the third operation will also effective in reducing rainfall in Jakarta areas," he hoped.
