Closing Ramadan, Staple Foods Skyrocketing

Approaching the fasting month, the price of staple foods began to increase in several traditional markets in East Jakarta.

But the price would decrease after Eid ul Fitr

Relaying on beritajakarta.com observation, several foods have increased in Klender SS Market, Cakung. The price hike hit red chili from Rp 25 thousand to Rp 30 thousand per kilogram, red onion from Rp 35 thousand to Rp 39 thousand per kilogram.

Similar condition also hit the domestic and local chicken. They are domestic chicken from Rp 20 thousand to Rp 24 thousand per kilogram and local chicken from Rp 75 thousand to Rp 80-100 thousand per chicken.

Fuel Hikes, Staple Food Price in East Jakarta Creeping Up

Lukman (53), one of local chicken peddlers expressed that the domestic chicken price has hiked in 3 days lately. “But the price would decrease after Eid ul Fitr,” he said, Tuesday (6/9).

Similar statement was also stated by a chili peddler, Sriyati (45).

Jonni Siregar, Head of Home Trade Section for East Jakarta Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Trade (KUMKMP) Sub-Department, enclosed the review was done in the market which aims to the price hike on staple foods ahead fasting month. It will be done routinely as price cheating prevention.

“Such reviewing is also aimed to maintain the stability of staple foods price until Eid ul Fitr,” he disclosed.
