City Tries to Reduce Food Price Differences on Seribu Islands

Jakarta Provincial Government keeps continuing the effort to ensure foodstuff price on Seribu Island remains stable. The significant price difference has been caused by high distribution costs and weather factors that often hamper food supplies to the area.

Jakarta Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Agency Head, Suharini Eliawati said several efforts have been run to solve the problem. One of the efforts is distributing subsidized foodstuffs up to Sabira Island, the outermost island in Jakarta Province.
Jakarta Provicial Government also has constructed Jakgrosir on Tidung Island by preparing foodstuffs according to the Highest Retail Price (HET) and strengthening cooperation with Bulog in providing cheap food.

With Jakgrosir and the subsidized food program, it is hoped that people in the islands will not have to spend more on their daily needs," she said, Friday (3/21).
She added that Perumda Pasar Jaya collaborates with Bank Indonesia for Jakarta Representative to hold cheap bazaar to stabilize foostuff price on Seribu Island.
Bazaar will be held on Tidung Kecil Island, Tidung Besar Island, Kelapa Island, Kelapa Dua Island, and Harapan Island.
Various commodities such as cooking oil (1.8 tons), rice (0.3 tons), sugar (1.7 tons), and horticultural products will be distributed to meet the needs of the residents.
Moreover, Jakarta Provincial Government also appreciates support from Bank Indonesia of Jakarta Representative in playing role to stabilize foodstuff price and stock in Jakarta.
"Hopefully these various steps will reduce the difference in food prices between the Seribu Islands and mainland Jakarta. It means the island residents can enjoy more affordable prices and easier access to food," she stated.
