We urge residents to be more vigilant

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) is preparing a series of preventive measures to face the dry season in 2025.

According to the analysis of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the El Nino phenomenon is predicted to last shorter than usual in most regions of Indonesia, which could lead to a decrease in the availability of clean water in several areas, including Jakarta.

Jakarta BPBD Head, Isnawa Adji said his party would take mitigation measures focused on addressing drought, particularly through strengthening the distribution of clean water to the community.

"We keep strengthening coordination with PAM Jaya, Water Resources Agency (SDA), Baznas Bazis, and other stakeholders to ensure that clean water supply remains available and targeted," he expressed, Thursday (4/17).

Additionally, the distribution of clean water, he also intensified public education through various communication channels, both directly and digitally. Residents were urged to use water wisely, maintain their health, and minimize outdoor activities during the day to avoid the risks of dehydration, heat stroke, and respiratory illnesses such as acute respiratory infections that are common during the dry season.

He explained that despite Jakarta does not have forested areas or land prone to fires like other regions, the potential for fires remains a concern, especially in densely populated areas.

"Fires in residential areas can occur due to negligence, such as burning waste carelessly or electrical short circuits. We urge residents to be more vigilant and regularly check the electrical installations in their homes," he added.

He had also set up disaster response posts from the urban village level to the provincial level to ensure a quick response to emergency situations.

Joint personnel from various agencies had been deployed to monitor conditions on the ground, address potential disasters, and deliver logistics to affected locations if needed. In the context of drought, the logistics provided included clean water supplies and other basic necessities.

He also urged the public to continuously monitoring weather information from BPBD's official channels and BMKG, and not to hesitate to report any potential dangers or disasters through the Jakarta Siaga 112 hotline.

Then this preparedness is expected to be part of a collective effort to build the resilience of Jakarta's communities in facing climate change and extreme weather.

"Hopefully, residents can go through the 2025 dry season safely, healthily, and remain productive despite the challenging weather conditions. Jakarta Government will continue to be present and act swiftly to protect them from disaster threats," he stated.
