The Jakarta Government is set to hold a symbolic action titled 'One Hour for the Earth' by turning off lights and electricity for a full hour on April 26, to commemorate Earth Day 2025.

The blackout will take one hour from 8.30 PM to 9.30 PM on protocol and artery roads in five regions. It also applies to buildings of private, commercial, shopping center, restaurant, hotel, and apartment.

Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto expressed this is part of an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Jakarta.

"It can have a real impact, such as savings in electricity consumption, economic efficiency, and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change," he explained, Wednesday (3/24).

He invited Jakartans to participate from their homes by turning off the lights for 60 minutes. This also serves as a moment of reflection to raise environmental awareness amid the rapid development of the city.

"Hopefully, this small step can trigger greater awareness of the importance of taking care of the earth. Not just on Earth Day, but every day," he hoped.
