Jakarta Library Holds Spanish Day

Through the Spanish Day event, Jakarta Library reaffirms its role as an inclusive and educational public forum. The event is held at PDS HB Jassin Hall, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Menteng, Central Jakarta.

The event is held through collaboration with ten embassies namely Columbia, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Spanish Day is an important moment in strengthening cultural relations between Indonesia and Spanish-speaking countries. It is also broadening people's insight into the richness of literature, art, music, cuisine, and language from the Hispanic world.

Jakarta Library and Archive Agency Head, Syaefuloh Hidayat said Jakarta continues to build its identity as a global city, as a metropolitan city that is a meeting point for various cultures, a city that is open, dynamic, and inclusive of the world's diversity.

He added that diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Spain have been established for a long time with cooperation in various fields, including politics, economics, tourism, education and culture.

"We celebrate Spanish Day today. A cultural event that is held to celebrate the richness and diversity of Spanish culture from literature, art, music, cuisine, and language. Spanish Day can support Jakarta's vision as a global city through educational, collaborative and humanistic cultural diplomacy," he said, Thursday (4/24).

According to him, Spanish Day is a bridge between cultures that connect different civilizations of Indonesia and Spain. Access to rich cultural heritage, expand international networks, strengthen tolerance and deepen our understanding of connected world can be reached by learning each other's language and culture.

"This event is expected to introduce cultural education importance while preserving local wisdom such as getting to literary works from various countries, understanding their history and tradition, or simply tasting their culinary. It is part of the learning process that forms inclusive and empathetic world citizens," he added.

Syaefuloh continued Jakarta Provincial Government through Jakarta Library and Archive Agency affirms the library's commitment as an inclusive center of literacy and culture.

He assessed that the library is not only a place to read but also provides various facilities that support various global literacy activities and cross-cultural learning such as providing special shelves for international collections, dialogue booths, multimedia, podcast rooms or podcast booths, halls, and community rooms.

"We make Spanish Day a special momentum to strengthen cultural relations between Indonesia and Spanish-speaking countries in Indonesia," he stated.

Spanish Day provides a series of activities full of educational and entertainment value, including in-depth presentations on Spanish-speaking countries history and culture. Participants are invited to learn more about the rich traditions, languages, and arts that characterize each country.

Various activities are presented during Spanish Day such as Jakarta Library tour, traditional dance performances, book donations with five different titles from all participant embassies, poetry readings, and Hispanic countries musical performance.

Jakarta Library and PDS HB Jassin open opportunities for further collaboration in the form of language classes, literary discussions, art workshops, and cultural exhibitions involving international and local communities.
