The Jakarta Government is about to make Pasar Baru a new symbol or hub for Jakartans. It was stated by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung while visiting Pasar Baru in Central Jakarta yesterday.

"Pasar Baru will be transformed into a symbol or new hub for Jakarta people," he expressed.

This was done following the successful revitalization of Blok M into a new hub that has made the area bustling with visitors. It would be done thoroughly.

He highlighted the current condition of Pasar Baru, which still displays old decorations and appears to be poorly maintained. Hence, Pramono would hold a special meeting next week to discuss the details of the renovation of Pasar Baru.

Pasar Baru is expected to become a center for souvenirs, fashion stores, and various other necessities. The Jakarta Government would also prioritize accessibility for the community. One of the ways is by opening a new Transjakarta route with a short route.

"For instance, I asked earlier, where do most visitors to Pasar Baru come from? It's from the south. And for that, a route should be built, for instance from Blok M to Pasar Baru or from Tebet to Pasar Baru," he explained.

Even, the legendary restaurants in Pasar Baru would be revived to attract visitors. The Government-owned parking building woulo also be used, which has not been maximally used so far.

The revitalization plan for Pasar Baru as a souvenir center is supported by its strategic location, being close to Jakarta Arts Building, Presidential Palace, Istiqlal Mosque, and Jakarta Cathedral. Pramono is also committed to improving the rivers around the Pasar Baru area to make them clean and appealing again.

She hoped, with the new branding, Pasar Baru would become a more comfortable place and return to being one of Jakarta's main icons.
