Legislator Encourages Expansion of Food Subsidies

Jakarta City Council Commission B Member, Dwi Rio Sambodo pushed for expanded and integrated food subsidy programs such as cheap rice aid with data from KJP, KJMU, and the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS). He considers this step important to address the rising rice prices.

Efficient logistics system needs to be ensured

"I request that social assistance not only be reactive during crises but also become part of a long-term inflation control strategy," he expressed, Monday (6/30).

He also emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination between the Jakarta Government and Perum Bulog, as well as local governments that produce rice such as West Java, Central Java, and Banten. He said, this cooperation must be ongoing and data-driven based on the actual needs of residents to ensure rice supply to Jakarta remains secure.

He also urged the Food Task Force and the Agency of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) to tighten supervision of the distribution and prices of food in both traditional and modern markets. Strict enforcement against speculators, hoarders, and price cartel actors must be a priority, including revoking business licenses for serious offenders.

"Bulog warehouses and Kramat Jati Market must be strengthened as the main distribution hubs. Efficient logistics system needs to be ensured so that supplies reach retailers quickly," he asserted.

Aside that, he promoted diversification of food consumption by intensifying campaigns for non-rice food ingredients such as cassava, corn, and sago. He also asked the Food and Agriculture Agency and the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency to support local food MSMEs to enter the modern market.
