N. Jakarta Mayor Urges Vigilance for Hydrometeorological Disasters

North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat has urged all Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPDs) to anticipate potential flooding caused by extreme weather.

"... to work together in monitoring flood-prone areas and addressing any necess ary issues,"

He noted that according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)'s prediction, extreme weather and tidal flooding are expected over the next week.

Jakarta Prioritizes Flood Impact Mitigation Strategies

"We have instructed all personnel, from urban village heads to related sub-agencies and residents, to work together in monitoring flood-prone areas and addressing any necessary issues," he said, Tuesday (7/8).

He explained that due to heavy rainfall on last Sunday and Monday, residential areas in two RTs in RW 01, Kapuk Muara Urban Village, were inundated with water reaching up to 50 centimeters.

"I'm grateful that North Jakarta has not experienced severe flooding. Conditions remain relatively safe, manageable, and under control," he added.

He also expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders who have providing attention, cooperation, and coordination in mitigating potential impacts.

"Thank you to all personnel and parties who continue to coordinate and cooperate in responding to floods, fallen trees, traffic jams, and others. Hopefully, we can manage and overcome the challenges ahead," he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Head of Water Resources Unit in Penjaringan Sub-district, Pendi, added that waterlogging in RW 01, Kapuk Muara, was caused by overflowing Angke River.

"Thank God, this area is now fully drained. We had activated all pumps since yesterday to ensure the water receded quickly," he stated.

He emphasized that all personnel were deployed in shift to handle the situation efficiently.

"We urge North Jakarta residents, especially those in coastal areas, to remain alert and take precautions against the impacts of extreme weather, both heavy rainfall and tidal flooding," he asserted.
