Legislator Ali Lubis Supports Ciliwung River Development Plan

Jakarta City Council's Commission D Member, Ali Lubis supports the Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung's plan to arrange the Ciliwung River at West Flood Canal as the public and recreation space.

Governor's idea is good and must be supported

Pramono previously stated that the development would include reforestation, pedestrian improvements, and the construction of a bicycle bridge. The area will be managed by the Jakarta Experience Board (JXB), given the river's strategic role in Jakarta's flood control system.

"The Governor's idea is good and must be supported, especially since the goal is to provide public spaces that are cheap and useful for the community," he said, Friday (8/1).

He confirmed that Commission D will support budget allocations if development proposals are submitted by relevant agencies. However, Ali emphasized the importance of thorough research before a project begins.

"A study should be held first to ensure thorough planning, particularly regarding land contours and site suitability, as this is located on a riverbank. This shouldn't pose a risk to the community," he added.

Ali also emphasized the importance of maintaining the area after the development is complete. He stated that public spaces must not only be built but also maintained to ensure they remain comfortable and safe to use.

"Maintenance, such as lighting, CCTV, security, and other facilities, must be ensured to be running optimally. Don't be enthusiastic about making big improvements at the start, but neglect to maintain them, which will ultimately result in losses for the community," he stated.
