The Jakarta Environmental Agency, together with the Suka Resik Cooperative (KSR), officially launched eMaggot, a centralized digital platform that facilitates the buying and selling transactions of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggots.

Now, distributing the harvest results has become much easier

This initiative aims to support more effective organic waste management, based on technology and community empowerment, and sustainable.

Besides providing technological solutions for waste management, this platform also promotes the creation of a circular economy system that involves active community participation.

The benefits of this platform are experienced by a producer and also by the maggot offtaker in this ecosystem, Royan. Since starting maggot cultivation in 2020, he faced difficulties in marketing his harvest.

"I used to be confused about where to sell. Now, distributing the harvest results has become much easier," he expressed, Monday (8/4).

He hoped that Suka Resik Cooperative could develop into more than just a trading place. It encourages the cooperative to become a center for training, education, and collaboration among maggot enthusiasts.

"If this continues to develop, it could become the foundation of a sustainable organic waste management ecosystem with a broad impact on the environment," he stressed.

Another appreciation also came from the Creator and also the Producer of Magobox, a portable BSF maggot rearing device for household and community scale, Fathimah Himmatina.

She expressed great happiness with the support from the Environmental Agency in building a market ecosystem that connects maggoters with offtakers.

"It used to be very difficult to find markets, and I had to search all the way to Bogor and Mojokerto. Alhamdulillah (thank God), the markets are now much broader," she admitted.

She added, Magobox has sold thousands of portable cultivation devices and has been providing assistance to home-scale maggot entrepreneurs in Jakarta for the past few years.

"Maggotters independently initiated the reduction of organic waste at home and in their community through bioconversion processes," she added.

Previously, Jakarta Environmental Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto, stated that cooperatives play a strategic role in waste reduction, particularly organic waste that can be decomposed by maggots.

Through the launch of eMaggot, he reaffirmed his commitment to providing collaborative, innovative, and sustainable waste management solutions.

"Suka Resik Cooperative has grown into a driver of the circular economy. Through the buying and selling of maggots, we not only create economic value but also provide tangible environmental solutions," he stated.

Through eMaggot system, the distribution of maggots from producers to the Implementing Unit and the Environmental Agency can now be done more efficiently, centrally, and documented digitally and cashlessly.

"With a transparent and digitized system, the distribution process becomes more accountable and well-monitored," he stated.
