E. Jakarta Mayor Leads Tree Planting at Dukuh 1 Reservoir

North Jakarta Mayor Munjirin led the planting of 20 lanzone trees at Dukuh 1 Reservoir, Dukuh Urban Village, Kramat Jati Sub-district, East Jakarta.

More Trees Planted to Green Cilangkap Reservoir

According to him, the Friday Planting program is held regularly every week at different locations to ensure continued greening efforts across the city.

"Dukuh 1 Reservoir area was chosen because it still has many empty spaces that need to be filled with trees to provide more shade and coolness. Hopefully, they'll start bearing fruit in one to two years," he said, Friday (8/8).

He expects residents to help take care of the newly planted trees, noting that they bring many benefits to the community.

"The reservoir area is also very comfortable for exercise because it has been equipped with jogging track, and even suitable for relaxing with family," he added.

East Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency Head Taufik Yulianto mentioned that lanzone or locally known as duku, was chosen for the planting as it reflects the area's identity, with the name "Dukuh" being associated with the fruit.

"This initiative also aims to preserve Duku Condet tree from extinction. We want this Betawi-endemic species to thrive not only in Condet, but also in other areas," he explained.
