Beware of Extreme Weather, BPBD Reminds

Jakarta Regional Disaster Handling Agency (BPBD) reminded the Jakarta residents to remain alert with the impact of extreme weather.

Stay alert, be prepared

Information from the Jakarta BPBD Instagram account on Monday (8/11) stated that rainfall with moderate to very heavy intensity will occur from August 11-13, 2025 in the Jakarta area.

Residents are also appealed to immediately contact the Jakarta Siaga Call Center at 112 for an emergency situation. Then the latest flood information can be monitored at https://pantaubanjir.jakarta.go.id/peta-banjir-berbasiskan-rt.

BPBD Eye MPLS As Early Disaster Preparedness Education

Based on the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)'s press release, the agency urged public to increase their vigilance for potential extreme weather in the coming days. This warning was issued after observing a significant increase in rainfall across various regions of Indonesia since early August 2025.

Guswanto, Deputy for Meteorology at the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, stated that extreme rainfall has hit several provinces. He explained that this increased rainfall was triggered by a combination of atmospheric phenomena such as the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), atmospheric waves, the indirect influence of tropical cyclones 90S and 96W, cyclonic circulation, and the slowing and convergence of winds around Indonesia.

BMKG's Director of Public Meteorology, Andri Ramdhani, added that the current negative Dipole Mode Index also plays a role, indicating the flow of air masses from the Indian Ocean toward Indonesia. This combination of atmospheric dynamics is driving the growth of massive rain clouds, which have the potential to trigger heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

Based on BMKG analysis, the potential for moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds on August 11-13, 2025, could occur in most areas of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua.

"Stay alert, be prepared, and understand safety measures if extreme weather occurs in your area," Andri appealed.
