100 Tourism Business Owners in North Jakarta Attend Disaster Management Training

As many as 100 participants attended the Technical Guidance for the Tourism Industry held by North Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Sub-agency. This activity carried the theme "Tourism Business Actors in Disaster Management and Fire Handling.

Head of North Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Sub-agency, Shinta Nindyawati said the training is held routinely every year with different themes.

According to her, the theme raised aims to increase the understanding and preparedness of tourism business actors in facing potential natural and non-natural disasters.

"The tourism sector is also vulnerable to various disaster risks, for example fires which can threaten the safety of tourists and the continuity of businesses," she said, Thursday (9/18).

Shinta explained that the activity was held for one day and featured four competent speakers, namely, Fadjar Hutomo, Expert Staff to the Minister of Crisis Management at the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism; and Adonis Muzanni, Disaster Risk Reduction Center at the University of Indonesia.

There were also from Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Agency, Puryantoro: and Head of Earthquake Information and Tsunami Early Warning Division of BMKG, Wijayanto.

"100 participants attended the training, consisting of hotel, restaurant, karaoke, entertainment and tourist attraction managers in North Jakarta," she explained.

She hopes that after participating in the activity, tourism business actors will be able to implement safety standards and prepare contingency plans, as well as take early preventive measures in facing disasters or fires," she hoped.

Puryantoro, a resource person from the Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Agency, reminded business owners are required to have a portable fire extinguisher (APAR) and be equipped with the necessary fire extinguishers. The goal is to mitigate or prevent the initial incident from escalating.

"We also regularly provide socialization to every business. We hope that from now on, industrial businesses and even the public will provide fire extinguishers at their respective locations," he hoped.

Meanwhile, one of the participants, Budi Setiawan admitted this activity is useful and important considering the potential for natural and non-natural disasters that can also paralyze the tourism economy.

"Thanks to the North Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Sub-agency for providing this training," he admitted.
