Fire Guts Restaurant at Ciplaz Mall

A famous restaurant at City Plaza Mall (Ciplaz), Jalan I Gusyi Ngurah Rai, Klender, Duren Sawit Sub-district caught fire at 8:20 AM.

East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency (Gulkarmat) Operation Section Head, Abdul Wahid said the fire is allegedly caused by an electrical short-circuit in the chiller machine.

"Employees were surprised when they saw a thick cloud of smoke coming from the restaurant's kitchen," he expressed, Thursday (10/9).

He explained, early fire handling using a portable fire extinguisher (APAR) was temporarily conducted while waiting for firefighters to arrive.

"We deployed 35 personnel and seven fire engines and one smoke removal to the scene. The fire extinguishing process started at 8:30 AM and was complete at 9:10 AM," he explained.

He added, there were no casualties or injuries in the fire incident at the shopping center.

Meanwhile, one of the restaurant employees, Pujianti, stated that at the time of the incident, the restaurant was still closed or not yet operating to serve customers.

"Suddenly, a thick cloud of smoke came from the kitchen. We immediately tried to put out it with a fire extinguisher and activated the sprinkler. Thanks to the prompt action of the personnel who quickly put out the fire," he stated.
