Jakarta Legislative Council Chairman, Khoirudin emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the community in monitoring the distribution and trade of non-food animal meat, especially dog and cat meat in the capital city.
This requires collaboration
This step is in line with the plan of Jakarta's Governor, Pramono Anung, to issue a Governor's Regulation regarding the prohibition of trade and consumption of non-food animal meat.
"This requires collaboration because our monitoring capabilities are also limited," he expressed, Tuesday (10/21).
Khoirudin: APBD 2026 Remains Favorable to Public InterestsHe pushed for the Jakarta government to open an online reporting channel, thus residents can actively participate in assisting field supervision.
"Anyone can become a field monitoring supervisor. Just report it to the local government if needed," he explained.
According to him, involving residents will make monitoring of the ban on consuming non-food animals more effective.
"The existing regulations, if enforced, will be effective. So, there's no need to change sanctions or create new rules," he explained.
He added, the prohibition of consuming dog and cat meat also aims to protect public health from the risk of disease transmission such as rabies.
