Preventive efforts are optimized to prevent flooding in the Patra area, Menteng Dalam Urban Village, Tebet Sub-district.

They are able to overcome floods

South Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar said, flood prevention in Patra area is conducted by dredging mud and trash in Cideng River, Patra Connecting Channel, and Kemenkes Connecting Channel.

"We also build five absorption wells with a depth of 28 to 30 meters. Each well can hold up to 10,000 liters of water," he expressed, Monday (10/27).

Anwar Inspects Flood Prevention and Repair Infrastructure Development

According to him, the well is important for controlling floods and maintaining the quantity and quality of groundwater.

"They are able to overcome floods during the rainy season and also ensure that the water reserves remain good," he explained.

He continued, the handling has been conducted at flood-prone locations and has yielded quite good results.

"If heavy or extreme rain occurs, the flooding has decreased by up to 50 to 60 centimeters," he explained.

Anwar invites residents to keep the macro and micro channels, embung (artificial lake), and reservoirs clean by not turning them into trash dumps.

"Cleanup action is conducted routinely together with neighborhood management and other residents, considering a clean and well-organized environment along the riverbank is very important," he asserted.

South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agenc (SDA) Head, Santo added, this flood control effort involves 500 personnel, five excavators, and 10 dump trucks.

"Specifically for Cideng River, we conducted dredging of mud and trash with a thickness of one meter along 600 meters. The dredging of approximately 1,100 cubic meters of mud is targeted to be completed within two months," he explained.

He explained, the dredging is conducted from upstream to downstream to optimize its function, thus residents feel increasingly comfortable living in South Jakarta.

"We'll continue from behind the KPK Building to Waduk Setiabudi, which we're currently dredging. Hope this effort can address the frequent flooding that occurs during heavy rain," he continued.

This action received appreciation from Jakarta City Council Commission D Legislator, Nabilah Aboebakar Alhabsyi.

"Very remarkable. I am very proud of the Mayor and his team, especially the Water Resources Sub-agency, in overcoming flooding and inundation. Hopefully, this can become a legacy if we take real action, provide the best service, and benefit the residents," she stated.
