Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung held a meeting with Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin at the Health Ministry Building, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (10/28).
"...very suitable for an international hospital in Jakarta due to its very strategic locations,"
This meeting followed up on the Jakarta Provincial Government's plans to build an international-standard hospital on a 3.6-hectare land next to Sumber Waras Hospital.
"We are preparing to build on a 3.6-hectare area, which is very suitable for an international hospital in Jakarta due to its very strategic locations, close to the other private hospitals," said Pramono.
Jakarta to Built Type-A Hospital on Sumber Waras LandDuring the meeting, he presented two proposals to the minister regarding the hospital's development. First, he proposed that the project to be included in the National Strategic Project (PSN) under the Government Regulation No. 42/2021 on the Facilitation of National Strategic Projects.
"If the central government agrees, we will formally propose for it," he mentioned.
Second proposal is related to the development mechanism, which would be handled by the provincial government. However, he suggested that the Health Ministry support the project by providing medical equipment and internationally qualified medical personnel, including doctors.
"Those are the two key points we discussed, and we will coordinate further with the central government regarding these matters," he shared.
In addition to this plan, Pramono also shared the government's intention to build another international-standard hospital in Cakung, covering 1.7 hectares.
He expressed optimism that the construction of new hospitals and improvements in healthcare services would help boost Jakarta's position in the Global Cities Index, which recently moved up from 74th to 71st in the past seven months.
"We already have an estimate of the required funding," he noted.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin fully supported Jakarta's plan to build an international-standard hospital on the land next to Sumber Waras Hospital.
This hospital development is expected to reduce the number of patients seeking medical treatment abroad.
"I've reviewed the plan, and the land issue appears to be resolved. The Governor also proposed building an international hospital there to help reduce the high number of patients going overseas for treatment, as many of them are from Jakarta," he explained.
The Jakarta Government's plan also aligns with the directives of President Prabowo. The Minister added that the meeting also explored various financing scheme options for the hospital project, including the recruitment of internationally qualified medical personnel.
"We support it to be included in PSN, although the final decision isn't ours. But from the Health Ministry's side, we fully support it,” he stated.
