PT Transjakarta continues to transform towards intelligent, inclusive, and citizen-oriented public transportation services.
This year's the target is more than 400 million
PT Transjakarta President Director, Welfizon Yuza explained, the major change in the company began when the institution shifted from a Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) to a Limited Liability Company in 2015. A year later, the operational approach shifted from being operational-driven to customer-driven.
"Now all parties refer to users as customers, not passengers," he expressed, in the Balkoters Talk forum, at Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday (11/5).
Pramono: Transjakarta Must Improve Payment System ServicesAccording to him, the paradigm shift also changed the operational focus from the number of buses in operation to the number of customers served. As a result, Transjakarta's service coverage now reaches 91.8 percent of Jakarta's area, meaning about 9 out of 10 residents can reach a bus stop within a 5–10 minute walk.
"Last year, we served 372 million customers, and this year's the target is more than 400 million," he explained.
In the future, Transjakarta is currently preparing the smart mobility phase, an integrated transportation system based on technology with citizens at the center of the service.
"Transjakarta is not only customer-centric, but also citizen-centric," he explained.
Transjakarta also strengthens its role in urban tourism through open-top sightseeing bus services.
"It's time for people to come to Jakarta to enjoy the city, and Transjakarta is ready to be the face of the city," he explained.
Jakarta City Council Commission B Member, Muhammad Taufik Zoelkifli appreciated Jakarta's transportation system improvements, which he believes have surpassed those of Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Manila.
He assessed, service improvements must be conducted comprehensively, starting from maintaining affordable fares, ensuring safety and comfort, to creating a humane transportation system.
He also reminded the Jakarta government and Transjakarta not to become complacent with their current achievements.
"As Jakarta approaches its 500th year, it must provide increasingly better and more efficient public mobility," he added.
He emphasized the importance of improving the quality of services, supervision, and cross-agency collaboration. He also encouraged the community to make public transportation a part of a sustainable city lifestyle.
"Transjakarta, MRT, and LRT have provided more humane services. This is a great progress, and it must continue to be improved," he stated.
