DPRD Chairman Comments on Smoke-Free Zone Regulation

Jakarta Council (DPRD) Chairman Khoirudin emphasized that the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on Smoke-Free Zone (KTR) is not intended to ban people from smoking but to restrict smoking activities in certain areas.

"KTR is not meant to ban people from smoking, but to limit smoking activities,"

According to him, the KTR Special Committee (Pansus) drafted this regulation to protect sensitive environments, such as educational zones, children's playgrounds, and healthcare facilties.

"KTR is not meant to ban people from smoking, but to limit smoking activities, especially in educational environments, because those are places for children to learn and grow," Khoirudin explained, Thursday (11/6).

He stressed that students are the future generation who need to be protected from exposure to cigarette smoke.

"Future leaders must grow up in environments free from cigarette smoke," he added.

However, he assurred that entertainment venues such as cafes are still allowed to provide designated smoking areas. in addition, this regulation will not restrict MSMEs from selling cigarettes.

"Above all, smoking should not pose a risk to the health of others," he affirmed.
