Jakarta City Council Commission A Member, Kevin Wu emphasizes the importance of early prevention efforts against potential fires considering the still high risk of fires in the densely populated residential areas of the capital.

According to him, many residents have provided input regarding the need to improve preparedness, especially in areas with flammable non-permanent houses.
"The fire spreads very quickly every time if a fire occurs in recent months. If handled promptly, the fire can easily spread to other houses," he expressed, Friday (11/7).

"In some neighborhoods, there are only two to three fire extinguishers. This is far from sufficient, especially for densely populated areas. Fire extinguishers are very much needed to combat fires in the initial moments before the fire spreads," he explained.
He also appreciated the performance of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat), which is deemed capable of responding quickly to incidents. He noted that there are still obstacles in the field, especially related to water availability.
He emphasized the importance of more thorough preventive measures, as well as a comprehensive evaluation of the fire response system and other supporting infrastructure.
"The main issue at present lies in prevention and preparedness, both related to fires and floods," he stated.
