Here is SDA Sub-agency's Step to Overcome Flooding in Seribu Islands

The Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) intensifies mitigation and ongoing handling of phenomena, such as tidal flooding in the coastal areas.

We have deployed personnel and floating pumps to accelerate the water receding

Seribu Islands SDA Sub-agency Head, Mustajab said, they had deployed 166 personnel, 20 operational vehicles, and 50 portable pumps at several vulnerable points on 11 inhabited islands.

"Since yesterday, we have deployed personnel and floating pumps to accelerate the water receding. The channel cleaning is done to smooth the flow of water toward the sea," he expressed, Friday (12/5).

He explained, the flood tide height varies in each region, ranging from about 20 to 25 centimeters. To address this phenomenon, they are also continuously strengthening infrastructure or building embankments in each area.

"We continuously ensure that all dams and water control structures are functioning properly so that the community is better protected during high tides," he added.

He also urged residents to always be vigilant, follow weather forecast information, and report immediately if they find any points that could potentially cause flooding.

He went on to say that this phenomenon of tidal flooding will occur again during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holidays, so they continue to station personnel and implement mitigation measures on each island, especially in popular tourist areas predicted to be crowded.

"The mitigation efforts we have undertaken are expected to minimize the impact of tidal flooding and improve community preparedness in Seribu Islands area," he explained.

Panggang Island Urban Village Head, Jamaludin uttered, there are seven affected by the tidal flood in the area. It is suspected that this is due to the lack of a barrier wall on the northern side of the island.

He hoped that the area could soon be protected by flood barriers or erosion barriers.

"Hopefully, the barrier construction on the northern side of Panggang Island can be done soon," he hoped.
