Electrical Short Triggers Fire Incident in Cempaka Baru

The electrical short triggered a fire incident that burned a shop house on Jalan Suprapto RT 02/RW 01, Cempaka Baru, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (12/9).

Head of Cempaka Baru Urban Village, Rahmat said that from the temporary information he received, the fire first appeared from a battery that was being charged on the first floor of the building.

Fire in Cakung Allegedly Caused by Electrical Short

"It is suspected that a short circuit occurred while charging the battery, then the fire grew and burned down the building," he said.

He added that the incident killed 12 people, namely nine women and three men. One of them is a woman who is pregnant.

"The burnt shophouse was a drone sales place," he added.

Meanwhile, Rian, one of the security officers who saw the incident, admitted the fire appeared at 12 PM during lunch time.

"Dozens of people are estimated to be trapped inside the building during the fire. Around 15 people were successfully evacuated as the fire engulfed the first floor of the shophouse owned by PT Terra Drone," he admitted.

Now officers are still evacuating the victims who were presumed dead.
