Jakarta Planetarium: 3-Month Free Student Entry

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, officially reopened the Jakarta Planetarium at the Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) complex, Tuesday (12/23) .

This reopening marks a significant milestone, as the planetarium returns to service after being out of operation since 2012.

"I am very happy that after more than 13 years since 2012, the Planetarium—which was initiated by Bang Ali Sadikin back then—can finally be revived today, Alhamdulillah (thank God)," he expressed.

To spark interest in astronomy among the younger generation, he introduced a special policy offering free admission for three months for all students in Jakarta.

While access for students will be free of charge, he emphasized that parents or chaperones will still be charged the standard rates. Entrance fees will be managed by PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), while the daily quota mechanism for free student tickets will be regulated by the Jakarta Education Agency (Disdik).

"I've decided that Jakarta students who wish to take advantage of this over the next three months will receive free admission," he explained.

This policy also extends to students from outside Jakarta and will be in effect throughout the Christmas and New Year 2026 holiday season.

Aside that, Pramono officiated the launch of the Raden Saleh Pavilion at Taman Ismail Marzuki, which is managed through a partnership between PT Jakpro and the Artotel hotel group. The facility features 139 rooms across various categories, along with meeting rooms and coworking spaces.

"The collaboration between Artotel and Jakpro must be well-managed. Art spaces should be wide open for engagement with the Jakarta Institute of the Arts (IKJ),” he continued.

He anticipates that this management synergy will support growth in both Jakarta's hospitality and art industries.

On this occasion, he also underscored the necessity of a unified management system for the TIM area, aimed at avoiding institutional redundancy between policymakers and on-site operators.

He envisions that reviving TIM’s facilities and offering broader access to students from the Jakarta Institute of the Arts (IKJ) will cement Jakarta’s status as a culture-centered global city.

In tandem, PT Jakarta Propertindo President Director Iwan Takwin noted that the Jakarta Planetarium has undergone a modern transformation. Its previously defunct visual systems have been upgraded with state-of-the-art AI technology.

"We have reimagined the Planetarium into a completely new space. It offers more than just astronomical imagery; it is an entirely new immersive experience," he continued.

Further, he addressed the inauguration of the Raden Saleh Pavilion within the TIM area. This temporary lodging facility is designed to support the cultural and artistic ecosystem at TIM.

"We refer to this supporting facility as the Wisma Seni (Arts Guesthouse). We hope it creates a synergy that truly solidifies Taman Ismail Marzuki as a premier arts and cultural hub in Jakarta," he added.

Partnering with Artotel, the Raden Saleh Pavilion features a range of amenities such as meeting rooms, workshops, and gallery-style foyers for artistic showcases.

"We are working alongside the Jakarta Arts Council and Artotel to curate art that can be displayed throughout the various halls of this Wisma Seni complex," he noted.
