Untung Jawa Island Revitalization Prioritizes 19 Sites

The Seribu Islands Regency administration is set to carry out an extensive area revitalization across several locations on Untung, Island Jawa Urban Village, South Seribu Islands Sub-district.

The project encompasses 19 specific sites, consisting of five priority locations for public and tourist spaces, three maritime tourism zones, and 11 supporting infrastructure points.

Seribu Islands Regent, Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan, stated the redevelopment does not only focus on sustainability standards but also targets a significant upgrade in the quality of tourism destinations. These efforts will be achieved through ecosystem improvement, cultural heritage restoration, the expansion of local economic opportunities, and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.

"Untung Jawa Island was selected as the prototype for inhabited island revitalization due to its inherent potential and its strategic proximity to mainland Jakarta," he expressed, Wednesday (12/24).

He explained that to support the master plan, the regency is coordinating authority and budget allocations across various Regional Government Organizations (OPD). This collaboration marks the initial step in establishing the Seribu Islands as a tourism region that is recovering, regrowing, and providing long-term added value for future generations.

"We have also signed a formal agreement regarding the Untung Jawa Island area revitalization to prevent any future overlap of authority or obligations between different regional departments," he noted.

Human Settlements, Spatial Planning, and Land Head, Jouce Victor explained that the revitalization is targeted for completion within two to three years, with the initial phase slated to begin in 2026.

He detailed that out of the 19 points scheduled for redevelopment, five are categorized as priority locations: Untung Jawa Tourism Village, local sports field, Sakura Beach and Nemo Park, Sentigi Park, and the running track embankment.

"We believe these five locations are pivotal in supporting both resident and tourist activities, particularly in terms of sports, the tourism economy, and public open spaces," he added.

Further, three maritime tourism areas included in the plan are the iconic Jembatan Pengantin (Bride’s Bridge), the Jembatan Pengantin Resort, a multipurpose dock, and Pasir Putih Beach. The remaining 11 sites serve as supporting infrastructure, such as RPTRA (Child-Friendly Integrated Public Space), pier areas, Mangrove Eco Land zone, and other supporting facilities.

"We hope for support from all stakeholders to ensure this revitalization proceeds smoothly and optimally. We envision the Seribu Islands becoming more advanced and evolving into a world-class tourism destination," he explained.

Untung Jawa Island Urban Village Head, Muslim, conveyed his appreciation and gratitude for the revitalization plan. He committed to monitoring the project closely to ensure it stays on schedule.

"This redevelopment is crucial in transforming the face of Untung Jawa Island, making it more attractive and comfortable for visitors. This is especially important as the island consistently sees high tourist volumes every weekend," he concluded.
