New Skatepark Coming to Tambora Flyover Underspace

West Jakarta is stepping up its game in urban planning by converting the Tambora flyover underpass into a multi-functional skatepark and public area.

We are currently laying the groundwork regarding the site

The project, which is on the horizon for 2026, is designed to be a healthy and inclusive sanctuary for all. This initiative proves that the city is committed to making the most of every inch of its urban landscape.

West Jakarta Deputy Mayor, Yuli Hartono confirmed that the project was on the table during a strategic coordination meeting focused on local sports infrastructure.

Two potential locations are currently in the running: the undercroft of the Jembatan Dua (Angke) Flyover and Jayakarta Park on Jalan Latumeten, situated right across from Seasons City Mall.

"We are currently laying the groundwork regarding the site, with technical evaluations to follow," she explained, Tuesday (1/20).

The skatepark initiative is part of a broader blueprint to transform West Jakarta into a Healthy and Child-Friendly hub. By gearing up for this development, the city is eyeing the prize—aiming to hit its 2027 target for Healthy and Child-Friendly City status.

"This is a major shot in the arm for our community programs. We want the design of this park to be inclusive, healthy, and child-friendly," she explained.

Tambora Sub-district Head, Pangestu Aji added, the project kicks off as a direct response to popular demand from local youngsters looking for a place to let off steam and get creative.

"These kids are starved for open spaces. We want this to be a force for good that truly serves the next generation," he added.

This initiative follows a direct order from West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainah, responding to a plea made by residents during a recent community town hall. More importantly, the skatepark is being positioned as a game-changer to nip street brawls in the bud. By offering a healthy outlet for self-expression, the city aims to steer the youth away from conflict and toward productive skill-building.

"We are giving this initiative the green light and are committed to hitting the ground running for our residents. Our hope is to build a thriving public space that empowers residents to pour their heart and soul into creativity and productive activities," he concluded.
