Jakarta Gov’t Urges WFH Amid Extreme Weather

The Jakarta government is calling on companies across the city to adopt flexible working arrangements and Work From Home (WFH) policies in response to the ongoing extreme weather hitting the capital.

Companies are encouraged to adjust working hours or shift to WFH

This advisory is officially detailed in the Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Agency (Nakertransgi) Circular Letter No. e-0001/SE/2026, regarding the Implementation of Flexible Work Systems and WFH Due to Extreme Weather, issued on January 22, 2026.

Jakarta Nakertransgi Agency Head, Syaripudin said, this policy is a proactive move to safeguard the health and safety of employees while ensuring that business operations continue to run smoothly.

"Companies are encouraged to adjust working hours or shift to WFH for roles that can be managed virtually or from other safe locations," he stated, Friday (1/23).

The circular emphasizes that even with flexible work systems, companies remain duty-bound to uphold labor rights and benefits in accordance with current laws. Businesses are expected to maintain productivity and operational continuity while strictly adhering to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards—especially for employees required to commute or work outdoors during extreme weather.

However, these work adjustments do not apply to 24-hour operations or frontline public services. This includes essential sectors such as healthcare, public transportation, vital logistics, energy, and basic utilities.

"For these essential sectors, companies may implement a hybrid model—combining remote work with physical presence—balanced proportionally according to operational needs and on-the-ground risk levels," he explained.

This advisory is designed to be flexible, allowing businesses to adapt based on their specific industry conditions and internal policies. Additionally, companies are required to report their work system adjustments to the Nakertransgi Agency via the following link: https://bit.ly/HimbauanKerjaFleksibel.

"This circular is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice or until a new policy is issued following future weather developments," he concluded.
