Jakarta Prepares OMC and 200 Excavators to Prevent Flood

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung has urged the public to be aware of the potential for heavy rainfall in Jakarta, predicted for Tuesday (1/27). Pramono made this statement based on information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

high rainfall tomorrow

To anticipate the impact of high rainfall, Pramono has instructed the Water Resources Agency to carry out preventative measures, one of which is through efforts to dredge river sediment.

Governor Inspects Dredging Work to Ensure Optimal Flow of the Sepak River

"Based on BMKG data, there is a possibility of high rainfall tomorrow," he said, Monday (1/26).

Pramono added that the Jakarta Provincial Government has deployed 200 excavators throughout the city to optimize river dredging. This effort is expected to increase river capacity and improve water flow.

"Hopefully the preventive measures we have taken can still reduce the impact of flooding in Jakarta," he hoped.

Pramono also instructed that Weather Modification Operations (OMC) be carried out to reduce the intensity of extreme rainfall.

"For tomorrow, I have also requested that weather modification be carried out so that it does not have the impact that we do not expect," he added.

Although dredging continues, he acknowledged the limitations of Jakarta's rainwater catchment areas, which currently can only accommodate up to 150 mm of rainfall per day. As a medium-term solution, the Jakarta Provincial Government will prioritize the normalization of three main rivers namely the Ciliwung, Krukut, and Cakung Lama.

As for information, the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has issued an early warning of potential extreme weather in the Jakarta area from January 26 to February 1, 2026.

Based on information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Jakarta area is predicted to experience light to heavy rain with the potential to cause hydrometeorological impacts.
