Genangan di Permukiman Warga Pulau Untung Jawa Mulai Surut

Flooding on Untung Jawa Island Quickly Handled

Flooding that briefly affected residential areas in Pulau Untung Jawa Urban Village, South Thousand Islands Sub-district, Thousand Islands, was swiftly handled and has since receded.

"PPSU personnel are also carrying out post- flood cleanup,"

Untung Jawa Island Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) officer on duty, Muhamad Isro, said the flooding was caused by heavy rainfall coinciding with tidal flooding. The high tide hampered rainwater from draining into the sea.

"Floodwater has now started to recede. Earlier, flooding was recorded in RT 02/03 at around 20 centimeters, and in RT 03/03 with water levels reaching 25 to 30 centimeters," Isro reported on Friday (1/30).

He added that two floating pumps and around 15 joint personnel from Gulkarmat, the Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency, and local PPSU personnel were deployed to speed up the response.

"PPSU personnel are also carrying out post-flood cleanup so residents can resume activities safely and comfortably," he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Untung Jawa Island Urban Village Head Muslim praised the swift response by personnel in handling the flooding. He said the urban village administration continues to monitor conditions, given the potential for tidal flooding in the coming days.

"We appreciate the quick action taken by officers on the ground. This time, the flooding was not too severe," he said.

Muslim urged residents to remain vigilant for possible heavy rain and tidal flooding, and to keep the environment clean to ensure drainage channels function properly.

"We also remind residents to stay cautious during daily activities, as heavy rain and strong winds may still occur at any time," he noted.
