Beach Reclamation is Safe for Environment

Jakarta Provincial Government ensures that the beach reclamation in 17 islands located on the northern coastal of Jakarta will not destruct the environment.

Beach reclamation is not destruct the environment, but fix it

"Beach reclamation is not destruct the environment, but fix it. Because the developers must obey rules that we agreed together," told Division Head of Spatial Planning and Environment for Jakarta Development Planning Board (Bappeda), Benny Agus Candra, Sunday (8/23).

According to Candra, they also obligated to give contribution for northern coastal arrangement. That is by constructing the low-cost apartment and developing mangrove. "If it is neglected, all people will move to the south, Puncak, etc," he explained.

Based on that, Jakarta Government decided to support such development which is integrated with supervision in northern waters. He claimed, the initial reclamation design that was drafted in 1995 changed, that is there is a canal as long as 200-300 between islands from the shoreline to the artificial island. "We also expect, we would have a public beach. The point is not to burden Jakarta, but self-sufficient and contribute to the old land," he said.
