Jakarta Governor, Basuki "Ahok" T Purnama, ensured he cannot provide assistance through City Budget (APBD) to an Indonesian Racer, Rio Haryanto. This is because Formula 1 is commercial. The decision issued after there is recommendation of Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP).
Rio is the only racer from Asia in Formula 1 in 2016. But he still needs as much as 15 million euros to participate the race.
"We can't. We have checked the rule from BPKP in which commercial race does not permitted to provide through financial assistance," said Ahok, at City Hall, Wednesday (11/18).
According to him, assistance may be given if it is the promotion from private sector. They can assist Rio Haryanto. "Except promotional, we can assist him," he explained.
As for the latest information, Rio is known already get a major sponsor from PT Pertamina amounting to 5 million euros. Yet it is still less for financing by 10 million euros.
